BiographyWilliam Hamlin was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1772. He was self-taught in the field of engraving, teaching himself how to execute mezzotints, aquatints, and stipple engraving. He ran several eclectic businesses during his life, such as a musical instrument store and a mathematical instrument and engraving store. He died in Providence in 1869.
