George Murray was born in Scotland in 1766. By 1796 he was producing engravings in London. He came to Philadelphia in 1800, and became a prominent member of the Philadelphia Society of Artists. He ran a bank note and engraving firm called Murray, Draper, Fairman & Co. This company was dissolved upon his death in 1822.
