DescriptionThis print depicts views of various important buildings in the Washington D. C. area. At the top of the print is a portrait of George Washington flanked by an image of Mount Vernon on the left and his tomb on the right. Below the portrait is an image of a statue of Freedom with interior images of the Senate building to either side. Below these are images of important buildings and locations around Washington which are as follows: the United States General Post Office, United States Treasury, the Observatory, the White House, the Military Asylum, the Columbia Armory, the War Department, the Willard Hotel, the United States Navy Yard, the United States Arsenal, Matthew Church, the City Hall, Trinity Church, Georgetown College, an elevated view of Georgetown, the National Hotel, the Lunatic Asylum, the United States Patent Office, the Smithsonian Institute, a building dedicated to the Fine Arts, a statue of Andrew Jackson, and a statute of Washington by Clark Mills.
At the bottom of the sheet is a birds-eye view of the Senate building with the National Mall in the background. Below this image is a vignette of the Washington Monument, at center a scene of Washington as a General during the American Revolution, on the left Columbia, the goddess of Liberty, with flags and two cherubs, on the right.
