DescriptionThis is a page cut from Gleason's Pictorial. There are two images on the sheet with three columns of text in between. The upper image is a cityscape of Boston. In the foreground are a number of ships, steamers, as well as small row boats on the water. In the background is depicted Beacon Hill lined with buildings and smokestacks. Rising above the city is the Massachusetts State House.
The second image is an early view of the Mount Vernon mansion and tomb. The southwest facades of the mansion as well as colonnades and a dependancy building are shown on the far left of the image in the background. In the forground is depicted a man on horseback accompanied by a dog. There are two couples facing the Washington tomb. One gentleman is gesturing towards it with a walking stick. On the right side of the image is a large tree, past which there is a view of the Potomac dotted with boats.
