Alexander Lawson

American, 1772 - 1846
BiographyLawson was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1772. He moved to Liverpool where he began to learn engraving. In 1792 he immigrated to the United States and settled in Philadelphia. He became very well respected for his engravings of birds, and he was considered the "best engraver of birds in America," at the time. He died in 1846 in Philadelphia.
