DescriptionTeapot with a globular body, straight spout, and cusped, ear-shaped handle with scrolled upper terminal, on a shallow foot ring. Flat, circular lid with a bud knop. The teapot and lid are decorated in the Imari palette with underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red enamels and gilt. Each side of the teapot features peonies and bamboo around a rockery in a fenced enclosure. Veined red leaves frame either side of the spout where it joins the body. The enamels and gilt have worn away on some areas of the teapot, but incised designs on each side and an incised band of alternating panels of trellis-diaper and flowers encircling the top indicate the scope of the original design. The lid is decorated with two blue leaves and four red and gilt flowers. Knop retains traces of gilt.
