Description1779 John Paul Jones Comitia Americana medal. Original dies, plain edge. Paris Mint.Obverse: bust portrait facing right; subject depicted wearing a uniform with five buttons on the front, a ruffled shirt, and fringed epaulets, hair pulled back and loosely tied with a ribbon, "DUPRE.F'"; under truncation: "JOANNI PAVLO JONES/CLASSIS PRAEFECTO"; "COMITIA AMERICANA" in exergue.
Reverse: three sailing ships engaged in a battle; "HOSTIVM NAVIBVS CAPTIS A V TEVGATIS", in exergue "AD ORAM, SCOTIAE XXIII. SEPT./M.DCCLXXVIII./DUPRE.F."
