Inscribed: “HORATIO GATES DUCI STRENUO”; inscribed in exergue: “COMITIA AMERICANA;” above exergue line, at right: “N.GATTEAUX.”
Reverse: Figural group featuring General Burgoyne surrendering his sword to Gates; defeated British troops in left background; victorious American troops in right background; legend above: “SALUS REGIONEM SEPTENRIONAL.”; inscription in exergue: “GATTEAUX F”/ “HOSTE AD SARATOGAM/IN DEDITION ACCEPTO/ DIE XVII OCT MDCCLXXVII.”
