DescriptionOutdoor scene of George Washington in a military encampment. Washington stands in front of a tent wearing a military uniform, holding the founding documents of the United States in his right hand, and with his left hand tucked in his vest. To his left is a table covered with a carpet and holding stacks of books and maps. To his right is a stool holding a hat, and a telescope with and a cane leaning up against it. The ground in front of Washington's feet is covered with torn up British proclimations. Behind Washington stands his valet, William Lee, caring for a horse. In the background can be seen rows of tents and soldiers, with a landscape and river behind them.
