DescriptionHistorical scene depicting the capture of Major John Andre. Andre is at the center of the frame, wearing a long dark coat, with his boots and hat discarded behind him. Next to him stand two men, the one on the left stands next to a horse looking at Andre, while the one on the right holds up a hand stopping Andre and in his other hand he holds a letter, which incriminates Andre as a spy. A third man sits on a rock to the right holding a musket and watching the confrontation. In the background is a river in the distance and stands of trees.
