DescriptionFull length portrait of George Washington, set in a landscape, with a commander's marquee and soldier's tents in the background, with birds flying above them. Washington is wearing a military uniform with a single epaulet, a gorget, a sash across his chest, and a sash at his waist. A sword, presumably hung from his left hip, is visible behind his right leg and he is wearing a tricorn hat. In his right hand he is holding out a baton or spyglass, as if pointing at something out of frame, while his left hand rests on the muzzle of a cannon.Baker 419, Hart 761
