DescriptionHistorical scene depicting George Washington's return to Mount Vernon after the Revolutionary War. George Washington is just arriving in the central passage at Mount Vernon, where he greets Martha Washington and a young Nelly Custis. Behind Washington are two men dressed in cloaks and military uniforms. Behind Martha on the stairs are four women in gowns, and standing in a doorway is an African-American enslaved man possibly meant to represent William Lee. As this is a cigarette advertisment, there is an image of a package of cigarettes inserted into the scene in the bottom right corner of the image.
