DescriptionHistorical scene of George and Martha Washington arriving at Mount Vernon. In the background can be seen the Potomac, and a carriage being driven by an African-American enslaved man. Behind George and Martha there is a young woman, two men in military uniform, and a man wearing civilian clothes. George and Martha are being greeted by a number of women at the front door of Mount Vernon, one of whom bows to them, as several African-American enslaved individuals visible in the distance to the right of them. George and Martha are walking up a carpet laid on the ground leading up the steps of Mount Vernon strewn with rose petals, and Martha is leading a young boy by the hand.
