In 1748, Washington and William Fairfax’s son George William crossed the Blue Ridge to the south branch of the Potomac River. This marker was probably one of many that the surveying team used to lay out lots.

DescriptionDiamond shaped stone with flat obverse and reverse faces. Front face is inscribed in crudely formed letters: “1748 / LORD / FAIRFAX / LIͶE / VA”; the N in LINE is reversed.
