DescriptionRound tea bowl decorated with a view of the east front of Mount Vernon Mansion. The bowl has outflaring sides and a slightly raised foot rim. The front of the piece features a painted landscape scene consisting of a house at the crest of a hill, two fences, three small animals, and several clumps of trees. The central scene is surrounded by a narrow black band encircled by a gilt band. A grape leaf is painted on the other side of the piece. A narrow band of bellflowers encircles the exterior near the rim. The interior is painted with grape leaves, grapes, and grape vines edged with narrow lines of gray and gilding. The entire composition is painted en grisaille with gilt highlights.
