This glacier is similar to a pair that the Washingtons used for ice cream, which they began serving in the 1780s.

DescriptionShort, circular icery with cover or lid. The cover has straight sides and an inverted teardrop-shaped loop handle at center, while the bowl has straight sides rounded at bottom on a shallow pedestal foot and two square handles. Decorated with a gilded dentate (dent-de-loup) border around the rims of the bowl and lid; the handle of the lid and bowl are picked out in gold, with gilded leafy decoration springing from the terminals of the bowl's handles.

On one side, one of the handle supports is cracked through.
