DescriptionThis print is a portrait-format battle scene. It depicts fighting in close quarters between the Americans and the British. Soldiers fire upon one another, or use the butts of their rifles to bludgeon each other. In the center of the image is a man in a long white smock that appears to be emblazoned with the words "Liberty or Death". In the foreground an American officer (possibly inteded to be General Warren or Major Andrew McClary) appears to be gravely wounded.MarkingsPrinted in ink below the image in the bottom-left: "Painted by Chappel.".
