BiographyJohn A. O'Neill was born in 1837 and worked in steel engraving. He worked primarily in New York for the early part of his career, but then became involved in politics. He was elected mayor of Hoboken, New Jersey in 1876. In 1885 he was appointed Chief Engraver in the United States Treasury Department, and served there until his death in 1892.
