Harper and Brothers, originally founded as J. & J. Harper in 1817, began publishing Harper's Weekly in 1857. In 1962, Harper & Brothers merged with Row, Peterson & Company to become Harper & Row. In 1990, Harper & Row in 1987 joined with William Collins & Sons to create HarperCollins, which still exists today as one of the world’s largest publishing companies.
