DescriptionEarly view of Mount Vernon; oil on canvas showing East Front from the northeast, with the balustrade across the piazza, a summerhouse on the south section of the lawn, and a framework of some sort in the center of the lawn. The mansion's shutters are closed and there are several groups of people: a couple on the north end of the piazza; another in the center of lawn; in the foreground a group comprised of a couple, a girl with a dog, a boy rolling a hoop, and an older man reading. The sky is blue with some clouds and a number of boats can be seen on the Potomac.
Markingslabels on back - in lower left: a brass plate "DINGMAN"; 2 blue and white paper labels: "#20" in blue; and one with typed number "A0101" paper label on the canvas marked in pencil "Living Room/over couch/ ______near Window" in upper left: are two paper labels: printed number "5353"; and in red ink "X01" red and white label "Property of/Michael D. Dingman". in lower right, a piece of stationery with the logo of the Latham and Dibble Gallery, Inc. of Shoreham, Vermont, on which is typed " "Mt. Vernon" by Vistor De Grailly (See the Magazine Antiques for July, 1974. pp. 86 and 87) oil on canvas 15 3/4 x 21 inches."
