DescriptionTrundle or low-post bedstead with equal-height, flat-arched, hollow-corner head- and footboards, cylinder-block-and-ring-turned posts with urn finials and bulb feet, and pegged rails. The head- and footboards are tenoned into the posts, which are mortised to receive the side rails. The tops of the plain rectangular rails, which are higher than they are wide, slope inward and are fitted with pegs for a roped or sacking bottom. The side rails have tenons and iron bed bolts at both ends; filled mortises or wedges are visible on their outside ends. The head and foot rails are tenoned into the posts. In his Condition Survey of October 27, 1989, Marc Williams noted the nail holes on the underside of the rails where webbing may have been added at one time and the sockets on the bottom of the feet that suggest casters were added at one time. He also speculated that the legs had been cut down.
