This diamond ring descended in the Fairfax family with a strong history of having been made for George Washington as a mourning ring honoring his elder half-brother, Lawrence Washington. Lawrence Washington died of tuberculosis in 1752.

DescriptionA diamond, gold, and silver ring with a large round central diamond surrounded by twelve smaller round diamonds set in silver. Four of the stones are missing. The setting is attached to a closed gold backing, which is attached to the band. The band consists of four S-scrolls with unintelligible engravings forming the remainder of the band, joined to the setting by two pierced fleur-de-lis.
