DescriptionVertically oriented rectangular engraving plate for full-length standing portrait of Martha Dandridge Custis Washington, after the John Wollaston portrait of 1757. The subject is shown walking from left to right in a landscape setting, with two trees to her right and a distant river with small sailing vessels to her left. She is dressed in a dark open robe gown with light stomacher, shawl, petticoat, neck and sleeve ruffles, and a bow at the center neckline; her hair is pulled back and dressed with strands of pearls.MarkingsOn the reverse: "505".
