At the center is a horizontal oval containing a landscape view of the East Front of Mount Vernon and the east lawn, sloping down to the Potomac River in the distance. Above the image are the words: “MOUNT VERNON LODGE, / No. 73, / I.O. of O.F / Instituted August 5th, 1842”. Below the image are the words: “CELEBRATION / OF / LAYING THE CORNER STONE / OF / WASHINGTON MONUMENT / OF THE / WASHINGTON MONUMENT ASSOCIATION / New-York, October 19th, 1847.”
