The allied American and French victory at Yorktown, Virginia, proved to be the last major battle of the American Revolution. British General Lord Cornwallis’s calamitous and embarrassing surrender of more than 7,000 troops sapped British support for the cause, prompting the British government to negotiate for peace. Remembrances of this momentous event range from treasured relics of a battle flag, such as these, to fanciful prints.
