DescriptionHistorical scene depicting the procession commemorating George Washington’s death. The scene is set in central Philadelphia, with row houses in the background. In the middle ground is a procession of soldiers with their heads down, waving black banners, and four of them carrying a black draped casket with a tricorn hat and sword laid on it. In the foreground is the Market from which four men, a woman, and a child watch the procession going by.
